architecture of Grande Allee took inspiration from Quebec's
parliament, lending the opulent avenue a Second Empire look with
its mansard roofs and abundant ornamentation modeled after
Visconti and Lefuel's work on the new Louvre in Paris. In 1980,
the Manoir Lafayette was acquired by the Girard family. The
number of rooms rose from 10 to 23. In May 1992, 46 other rooms
were added. Special care was given to retain the unique charm of
the original structure. An all new five storey building went up
in the back courtyard to give the Manoir all the amenities a
